Watch to nurture…….

  • Loving Kindness Meditation Sharon Salzberg was one of my first meditation teachers at the Tibet House in downtown NYC. I return to this time and time again to center and ground myself. By practicing this meditation I am reminded that love is the greatest truth we are privy to in this lifetime.

  • Six in 6 minutes - Range A’capella. This has been on repeat in my house. It's fun, flirty, and awe-inspiring. What a great reminder that talent is pervasive.

  • Tick, tick...BOOM! Well, this was just stunning. My favorite scene in this movie was at the Moonlight Diner when all of Broadway’s heavyweights came out to join in singing “ Sunday,” which is an homage to one of my favorite musicals, Sunday in the Park with George. The soaring vocals, unmistakable talent, and interwoven stories got me hook, line, and sinker. As a theatre kid through and through, I wept for joy. I am so grateful that this movie came out when it did- my whole body has missed musical theatre. And to be able to be present with it, even in its filmed form, felt deeply refreshing.

  • Patti LuPone Interviews Sondheim The late, great Sonheim has always had the most special, sacred place in my heart. His wolf-like analysis of the world is something I could listen to all day long. His musicals capture the spectrum of human emotion in a way no other composer has successfully managed. Like Shakespeare, he too was an actor before he began creating. I love that tidbit. I love this interview. The end of this interview really touched me; “ You’ve said it by not saying it.”

  • Hadestown Tiny Desk Concert Clearly, musical theatre is on my mind. This music is the perfect marriage of contemporary folk and musical theatre. The voices, the chemistry, the talent. It’s all wonderful.

Follow to grow…..

  • @marleegrace Dancing sparkly dances while meditating on rest and what it means to be a creative person in this world obsessed with productivity.

  • @alicesparklykat Astrologer who investigates the layers of cultural oppression at play when it comes to access to this ancient wisdom.

  • @toimarie Thought-leader with a keen lens to examine and investigate the powers that be.

  • @alokvmenon Deeply passionate writer, speaker, and human invested in deconstructing the social conceptions of gender in society.

  • @beccapiastrelli Earth mama connected to relearning the wisdom of her ancestors to live a life more in tune to the land and the seasons.

Read to root…….

  • BOOK Venus and Aphrodite: A biography of Desire by Bettany Hughes A fascinating tapestry of art, myth, and tradition weaved together to examine the female divinity of love. This book looks at how the concept of the goddess has entranced us over time and how, simultaneously, society has trivialized her great powers.

  • BOOK Wintering: The Power of Rest and Retreat in Difficult Times by Katherine May This is a timely read. I have never believed more in the power of rest than I do now- in the midst of pandemic exhaustion and the trauma of existing within a capitalist society. This read is lovely, engaging, and the perfect book to cuddle up to in the cold weather with a cuppa.

  • ARTICLE Loving Your Job is a Capitalist Trap by Erin A. Cech The title might say it all. It is a personal practice of mine to separate my worthiness from my productivity. I am not always successful at this. But, gosh darn it, do I try. This article begins to unpack the layers of structural assurances at play that have created our generation's obsession with being productive.

  • ARTICLE America is Not Ready for Omicron by Ed Yong I have appreciated Yong’s consistent writing on the pandemic. He is honest and cuts to the chase. While I do think the media has engaged in a fair amount of fear porn throughout this time, I found this particular article to explain the structural issues at play in a way we have collectively ignored. While we can not control virology, there are measures that our government has failed to take in order to quell the spread. I am left with the question: how long must we value profit over people?

  • ARTICLE Who is the Bad Art Friend? By Robert Kolker If you haven't read this piece, take the hour or so to get invested. This is a cultural phenomenon. Spellbound is the word that comes to mind as I was reading this. The drama is plentiful and the moral ambiguity continues to shift hours after reading it. The typical lines of ‘hero’ and ‘villain’ are blurred and signals are crossed. This article has infused the cultural conversation with new terminology and understanding of what it means to be friends with other artists in your field. It also asks us to examine our loyalties, community, and understanding of self in the presence of other creators. I can not recommend reading this enough.

  • Sea Witch Playlist Since moving to the beach, I have found tremendous healing from the water. This was not something I expected- I’ve always liked the beach, but it was not a place I would think about outside of the occasional visit. Now I crave my time by the water. She is home. This playlist is honoring that newfound desire and my current healing journey through my time near the water.

  • Red (Taylor's Version) In line with the eclipse energy and no stranger to numerology, Taylor Swift released her re-recorded Red album. Let me just tell you that this original album changed me. It came out during an incredibly dark moment in my life; where I felt unseen, unlovable, and at odds with the world. Her echoing pop synths and storytelling prowess allowed me to feel the glow of visibility I so desperately wanted at 23. So, this release transported me back to those feelings while simultaneously allowing me to bask in the glory of my personal growth ten years later. It truly is amazing to take the time to understand where you’ve been and where you are now. This album allows me the magical ability to do just that.

  • Loving Her Was Red ( Feat. Bowen Yang) Like A Virgin Podcast Truly Excellent commentary on this album. What I feel like I have to explain to folks over and over again when it comes to my love for Taylor is her ability to be accessible. She writes music we can relate to. Bowen Yang and the folks on this podcast echo that sentiment with language I do not have.

  • Moonbeaming: Gifts from the Darkness An interesting conversation on how to celebrate Solstice. “ Some things die in the cold” is the medicine I needed to hear. A meditation on allowing and a quick overview of what it means to be a modern witch. A 20-minute interview that warmed my soul.

  • Partially Examined Life: bell hooks bell hooks has been and always will be one of my favorite academic minds. She recently passed and her legacy remains rooted in the idea of love. Her understanding and dissection of patriarchy, white supremacy and heteronormative culture are some of the most honest I have ever witnessed. Her use of language is poetic and musical. I am indebted to her for her work and hope to continue to incorporate her writing into my life on a daily basis.

Support if you can….

Since last month was the National Day of Mourning, I wanted to share three indigenous organizations to support. Thanksgiving is a colonizer holiday and I am working toward contending with that in my own life while embracing a dedicated gratitude practice. I have much to work on. Perhaps you are also struggling with this- below might be a few places to start doing instead of thinking.

  • Hey Jane is an abortion pill delivery service. This is just a good resource to know in the wake of what will be the red upheaval of Roe in the coming days. I keep thinking about the NYT article The End of Roe is coming. And, it's coming soon and this company allows folks to prepare accordingly.

  • Chani Nicholas App This app is my secret weapon. No joke. I rely on it daily. Chani Nicholas is an incredible astrologer. Her app gives you a weekly overview of the astrological transits, a variety of meditations, and alter suggestions for the current moon phase. I look forward to its weekly release on Sunday afternoons. I have found this app to allow me to really commit to my practice of following the moon cycles.
